the fentons are texans now, y'all

yup - you done heard right pardner.

the fentons are now officially texans until the year 2012. why, you ask? well see, back in 1997 when steve was applying to med school, kris had this funny feeling, a feeling she'd never had before. it was like, she'd eaten some bad chinese - only worse. three EPT's later, the young and newly married couple were convinced, they were going to welcome a little bundle of joy into their home in a little under 8 months.

shortly thereafter, steve got a letter from Creighton University that he had been accepted to their medical school - to the tune of many thousands of dollars a year. with a new baby on the way and little in the assets department, the young couple began to wonder how on earth they were going to pay for tuition, books and supplies, put a roof over their heads and food on the table.

a friend of steve's parents suggested steve join the air force, and with clinton in office, a booming economy, and desert storm out of the way - it sounded like a pretty good idea.

darcy jane was born april 14, 1998 and three months later the little family of three packed their bags and headed for omaha, nebraska where steve started medical school. two years later, max stephen was born, and a year later steve graduated and joined a surgery residency at the university of utah in salt lake city, where they lived for six years. during this time they had two more children, lilly evelyn in february 2005, and cooper patrick in may 2008.

the air force mailed a letter to the family of six, saying, "remember how we paid for four years of medical school, books and supplies, and helped put a roof over your head and food on the table? well, now you need to come pay us back as a surgeon at Wilford Hall Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas for four years." ok, maybe those weren't the exact words, but you get the idea.

so this is where the story ends and another adventure in the life of the fentons begins - in a state where "everything's bigger," insects are the size of small birds, the weather is hot, hotter, and $@%*#, and authentic mexican cuisine is delicious and plentiful.
